The ESM provides auto-sensing 10/100 Mbps switching capabilities for efficient connectivity to servers, workstations and others attached devices. The IEEE 802.3x standard-based flow control allows ESM to prevent traffic congestion by informing attached devices to stop transmission. When the switches detect that the buffer of each port is nearly full, attached devices are requested to wait until new data can be accepted. Flow control allows 100 Mbps full duplex connections between servers and switches with minimum data transfer loss. Auto-MDI/MDI-X features in ESM automatically adjust the transmit/receive pins within a port, rendering crossover cables unnecessary. Auto MDI/MDI-X is based on signals detected from the wires of attached devices.
