Grooming function allows service providers to optimize network transmissions by combining traffic streams to carry more data over the circuit. With E1 Grooming over the Ethernet network, MSAP2000 enables collection of all E1 user lines to a whole E1 bandwidth. Bandwidth aggregation allows service providers to make use of their bandwidth more efficiently and cost-effectively. It also enables service providers to connect customer equipments such as PBXs or routers to the metro Ethernet network using multiple E1 connections from multiple sites in the network. These connections will be groomed into a single STM-1 service at the central office switch or router.

Furthermore, other input/output signals from the RT including FXS, FXS-P, 2W/4W E&M, QE1M, V.35/E1 from G.SHDSL modem can be also concentrated into 64Kbps timeslots to the COT E1 interface to share an E1 link. One E1 link can provide up to thirty-one 64 kbps timeslots.
